     Directions

    • Workshop (January 12, 2019) consists of a written / performance review. Check-in for the workshop begins at 6:30 a.m. Students can expect to be finished at approximately 3 p.m.
    • Test (January 19, 2019) includes the 60-minute written exam followed by the performance (hands-on) exam. Check-in for the test begins at 6:30 a.m. and the test will begin at 7:00 a.m. The doors will be locked and those that are late will not be allowed to take the exam.
      • A valid ID is required on the day of the test. The ID will be held until the Examinee completes and turns in their test(s) booklet/answer sheet.
    • Pricing: Includes the review, CP-19 workbook, hands-on practice, and exam. Books will not be mailed. However, arrangements can be made for pick-up.
    • Meals: Breakfast and lunch is provided during the workshop and breakfast is provided during the test.
    • Physical Strength Requirement: You must be able to lift at least 45 lbs when performing some of the performance tests. No exceptions without a valid doctor’s note stating that you are not able to lift 45 lbs.
    • PPE: Steel or composite-toed shoes, long pants, safety glass and gloves are required.

    • Interpreters: While we do not provide interpreters, we do have examiners that speak Spanish and Farsi that are able to assist with questions. Please make sure you annotate this on your registration.
    • Refund Policy: Refunds may be issued on a case-by-case basis, up until 14 days prior to the workshop. There will be a $25.00 service fee charged for refunds. No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the workshop. A one-time transfer will be allowed within the 14 days if notice is given prior to the day before the workshop. There will be a $25.00 service fee for transferring.
    • Waiver: The attached waiver (see below) must be filled out and brought to class.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    Definition:
    A Concrete Strength Testing Technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of four basic laboratory procedures related to the determination of concrete compressive and flexural strength.
    Scope and Knowledge:

    The program requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM practices and test methods:

    • C617/C617M—Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens
    • C1231/C1231M—Unbonded Caps for Concrete Cylinders
    • C39/C39M—Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens
    • C78/C78M—Flexural Strength of Concrete


    Job-task analysis (JTA) for ACI Certification of Concrete Strength Testing Technician

    Certification Requirements:

    ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

    • A passing grade on the ACI written examination, and
    • Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.


    The one-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of approximately 40 multiple-choice questions. There are at least eight questions on each of the practices and test methods. To pass the written examination, both of the following conditions must be met:

    • At least 60% correct for each of the required practices and test methods, and
    • A minimum score of 70% overall.


    The performance examination is also closed-book and requires actual demonstration of the required practices and test methods. The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform all of the required steps for each procedure. Recertification is necessary every five years* and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.

    *NOTE: Certifications initiated prior to January 1, 2008, were granted certification for six years. Due to a policy change, however, individuals initiating the certification process January 1, 2008, and later will be certified for five years.

    Study Material:

    Although the workbook is included with the pricing, if you would like to get your workbooks before the workshop, you may arrange to pick it up from the ACI Houston Office. Workbooks will not be mailed.
